Early 20th Century Russian Icon of Madonna and Child in Repoussé Metal

Russian icon of Madonna and Child from the early 20th Century. The handmade icon features silvered sheet metal over wood with Repoussé work featuring etched, engraved, and hammered motifs of regal and religious significance. Notice the details of the robes and the attention to the folds and geometric asterisks as well as the lines of the hands, faces, and the crowns. Two angles with gilded angles are to either side of Madonna and Child. The frame is surrounded by engraved motifs in gilded metal and the reverse side features a blue velvet backing.
